And Thou Shalt Win

Parallel with the 59th Berlin Film Festival, there’s another cinematic event taking place in the German capital as well, namely the Berlinale Talent Campus. It’s a chance for young and brilliant film makers from all over the world to get together and show off their stuff. This year’s theme at the Talent Campus is: “Suddenly it all happened — the Turning Point in close-up”.

We all hope that it’ll suddenly happen for Chaim Elbaum from Israel, who’s there with his movie “And Thou Shalt Love”. The film, starring Ori Lachmi, is about a sexually confused yeshivah student who’s struggling to overcome his homosexuality. The film has already won several prizes and now we’re hoping for, and expecting, one more.

Just one thing, though: in a personal statement on the Talent Campus homepage, Chaim Elbaum says that he doesn’t want any more drama in his life. Is that really such a wise thing for an aspiring director to wish for?
